PACE calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to stop harassment of journalists
On January 29 PACE session held in Strasbourg adopted a resolution on the situation in Europe with the freedom of the media and protection of journalists' rights. The document expressed the call to the Governments of the Council of Europe to take steps to ensure safe working conditions for journalists. The resolution noted separately unfavorable situation in Azerbaijan, in particular, the case of arrested journalist Khadija Ismailova, investigating corruption country's top leadership. The resolution calls on Baku to immediately release her and other journalists, and stop their pursuit.
Among the dead members of the press the names of journalists Elmar Huseynov and Rafiq Tagi were noted; the authorities have not found their murderers. PACE urges Baku to respect the presumption of innocence and freedom of expression. The document was prepared by a deputy Gvozhden Flego, from Croatia.-16D-
