Pashinyan hopes that Russia will help establish peace, but is afraid of some forces
Baku/07.09.22/Turan: These are difficult times for the South Caucasus region, there are security challenges. Now the attention of the world community and Armenia's strategic partner, Russia, is focused on Ukraine. This can lead to destabilization in the region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on Wednesday. “There are forces that believe that Russia is too busy with the war in Ukraine and can use it to destabilize the situation,” Pashinyan said.
“These forces want to present Armenia in Moscow as a country with a pro-Western government, and in the West as a country with a pro-Russian government, in order to justify their own destabilizing actions in the future,” Pashinyan said, without specifying what kind of forces they were. He expressed hope that "in close partnership with Russia, it will be possible to keep the situation in the region under control."
He also announced his desire to improve relations with Turkey with the support of Russia. “We have already started a conversation with Turkey. We hope to improve relations with Turkey with the support of Russia,” Pashinyan said.
He noted that "an intensive conversation is underway with Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh problem." “We hope for the support of Russia not only as a strategic ally of Armenia, but also a close partner of Azerbaijan,” Pashinyan said.
He further confirmed Armenia's intention to open communications in the region, which will allow it to strengthen ties with neighboring countries, and will also be beneficial to Azerbaijan.
“It is necessary to resolve legal issues, according to what legal regulations the road will operate. The position is generally clear - the roads should operate under the full sovereignty of the countries through which they run,” he said. --02D--
