Project to improve the efficiency and quality of justice
Baku / 01.07.19 / Turan: Implementation of the project "Improving the efficiency and quality of the judicial authority of Azerbaijan", worth 915,000 euros, is starting in Azerbaijan.
The project presentation will take place on July 2, reports the Baku office of the Council of Europe.
The project is implemented within the framework of a joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe by the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ).
The project is aimed at institutional modernization of the system of execution of court decisions in Azerbaijan, as well as increasing the capacity of the structures involved in the execution procedures. The project will run until August 31, 2021.
There are currently 111 courts in Azerbaijan, employing about 600 judges. As part of the judicial and legal reform, an increase in the number of judges to 800 is expected.
It should be noted that local NGOs and international organizations criticize the judicial-legal system of Azerbaijan, the dependence of the courts on the executive branch, and the imposition of politically motivated sentences. -03D-
