Reports of Turkish Military Base in Azerbaijan Incorrect - Ministry of Defense
The Azerbaijan Deputy Minister of Defense, Air Force Commander, General Ramiz Tahirov denied reports on the establishment of a Turkish military base in Azerbaijan.
"The press reports about the creation of a military base of any country in Azerbaijan do not have any reason and do not correspond to reality," AzerTaj quoted him.
The airfield in the village Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev has been used since 1999 to send Azerbaijani peacekeepers to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. The terminal located here provides restrooms for personnel involved in aircraft maintenance and for pilots of the Turkish Air Force, which deliver Azerbaijani peacekeepers to these countries and back.
These rooms are provided for short-term vacation of pilots in the technical maintenance period. From now on, a building on the territory of the military settlement Gizil Sharg will be leased out to the administration of the military attaché of Turkey in Azerbaijan, Tahirov said. -02D-
