Representatives of Ombudsman visited arrested residents of Seudlu, and new detentions followed in village
Baku/23.06.23/Turan: Members of the National Preventive Group (for the Prevention of Torture) under the Ombudsman conducted monitoring in the temporary detention facility of the Gadabey region police department.
They held confidential conversations with persons held in this facility, including 5 arrested for participation in protest actions in the village of Seudlu on June 20 and listened to their appeals.
Each of the admitted persons was visually examined, they had no complaints about their treatment, provision of food, conditions of detention.
The detainees were explained their rights, provided with legal advice due to appeals about court decisions taken against them.
As part of the visit, the documentation on the detainees, their conditions of detention, and in particular the condition of the cells, conditions for personal hygiene and sanitary conditions, the situation with medical care, food provision were investigated.
The management of the temporary facility conducted a conversation and made recommendations in accord with national and international legislation.
According to village sources, those arrested after being taken into custody did not contact their families. Moreover, one of them, Zeynalov Zahid Ali oglu, was injured during the arrest. Moreover, on June 22, three more villagers were detained.
It has not yet been possible to get comments from the Interior Ministry.
Recall that on June 20, residents of Soyudlu village of Gadabey region protested against the creation of an artificial reservoir for wastewater from the enterprise for extraction and processing of ore gold at the Gedabey deposit.
The police dispersed the action using special means. According to local residents, about 10 people were injured during the confrontation. Five protesters were arrested administratively, another participant of the action was fined. -21B-
