Ruben Vardanyan has no complaints about detention conditions – Ombudsman
Baku/06.10.23/Turan: Azerbaijani Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva visited the former "state minister" of the separatist regime in Karabakh Ruben Vardanyan as a part of the monitoring of detention centres. According to the Ombudsman's office, Vardanyan has no complaints about detention conditions.
Commissioner for Human Rights Sabina Aliyeva conducted regular monitoring of detention centres without prior notice. Among other persons, Aliyeva separately received Vardanyan, who was detained on September 27 at the Lachin border checkpoint, the press service of the Ombudsman's office said.
During the meeting held on October 3, the Ombudsman listened to Vardanyan's appeals, to which answers were given. Monitoring of the status of ensuring the rights of the detainee was carried out.
He expressed his satisfaction with the detention conditions as saying he had passed an initial medical examination and there were no health problems. A telephone conversation with family members, the transfer of parcels, the use of the library and access to information were provided. At the same time, protection of the rights of the arrested person during the investigation is carried out by a lawyer of his family's choice, further noted in the message.
During the visit, the detention conditions in the centre were studied on the spot – personal hygiene and sanitation, medical care, nutrition.It was found that the rights of detainees, their access to information are ensured, the necessary medical and psychological services are provided, the press service of the Ombudsman's office said in conclusion.
Vardanyan's rights were initially defended by lawyer of Baku Law Office No. 12, Faig Huseynov.
In an interview with a Turan correspondent, he said that he regularly met with the defendant. According to him, Vardanyan had no complaints about the conditions of detention and any health problems.
At the same time, according to Huseynov, Vardanyan's family subsequently engaged another lawyer and refused his services. -06B-
