Ruling Party Nominated Ilham Aliyev Third Time for President of Azerbaijan
The party New Azerbaijan (NAP) today at its V Congress unanimously nominated incumbent head of state Ilham Aliyev for the third time a candidate for president in elections in October.
Aliyev also retained his post as Chairman of the party. The president's wife, Mehriban Aliyeva was first elected Deputy Chairman of the NAP.
Elected were two new Vice-presidents - the president of the National Academy of Sciences, Akif Alizadeh and Deputy Prime Minister, Ali Hasanov, head of the State Committee for Refugees.
From the old Deputy Chairmen only the NAP Executive Secretary Ali Ahmadov retained his post. -06D-

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has expressed condolences to the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, following the tragic incident in the city of Magdeburg. "We are deeply shocked by the news of the deaths and injuries resulting from the tragic incident that took place at the Christmas market in Magdeburg," the message reads.
