Russia and Iran will hold joint military exercises in the Caspian Sea
According to the representatives of the Russian and Iranian armed forces, this year Russia and Iran will hold joint naval exercises in the Caspian Sea. Last week, Iran sent a small naval flotilla to Astrakhan - point-based Caspian Fleet of the Russian Federation, and on Saturday the deputy commander of the Caspian flotilla, Nicholas Yakubowski, said that "visits to ports and joint exercises with the forces of the Caspian flotilla have been planned for the second half of this year."
Particularly interesting was the statement of the Iranian military attaché in Moscow, Colonel Suleiman Adeli.
"Iran and Russia want the Caspian Sea states to ensure security without the intervention of foreign powers, they regard the presence of foreign powers a cause of tension and conflict", quotes attaches of the FARS agency.
According to experts, Russia and Iran are trying to prevent a military presence in the Caspian, especially the Americans. Thus, the United States are implementing a Caspian Guard Program, aimed at improving the maritime borders of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
In addition, Iran and Russia want to weaken the possibility of building the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. -02D-
