The Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO) condemns Iran's "unfriendly" actions against Azerbaijan
Baku/29.10.22/Turan: The Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO) issued a statement in connection with the recent threats from Iran against Azerbaijan, the conduct of military exercises by the Islamic Republic of Iran near the Azerbaijani borders, as well as Tehran's demonstration of support for Armenia. "Unfortunately, until the Karabakh problem was resolved by Azerbaijan and even after the solution of this problem, Iran's attitude towards Armenia, which is the cause of the conflict and war, was unambiguously patronizing," the statement says.
Unlike some other Muslim countries, which, speaking from the standpoint of solidarity, did not establish political, diplomatic relations with the aggressor Armenia, did not open embassies there, condemned Yerevan for the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, Iran deepened cooperation with Armenia in all areas, ignoring the resolutions of the Organization Islamic Cooperation.
“During the years of the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories, the transformation of mosques into pigsties by Armenia, the murders of Azerbaijani women, the elderly and children, the genocide in Khojaly, the expulsion of about a million Azerbaijanis from their native lands, the burning, devastation of the territories of Azerbaijan, Iran did not express its protest against this,” reads the statement of the CMO.
The CMO sees as unfriendly steps on the part of Iran towards Azerbaijan the promises of weapons and military assistance to Armenia to encourage it to a new war, Tehran's threats to the implementation of the Zangezur corridor project.
“If Iran, which is voicing threats in connection with the corridor that will pass through Zangezur, the historical Azerbaijani land, opens a consulate in Kapan at this difficult time, declares its readiness to open a consulate general of Armenia in the ancient Azerbaijani city of Tabriz, then this cannot be regarded as a friendly move. This is not in line with Islamic ideology, and is a stab in the back of a Muslim brother," the CMO notes.
It should be noted that the CMO, led by the Shiite clergy, has never before publicly criticized and condemned the Islamic Republic of Iran. ---05В06--
