Why did Putin's speech inspire the Armenians so much?
Baku/29.10.22/Turan: The statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, made at the Valdai Forum on October 24, unexpectedly caused a surge of optimism in Armenia. It is noteworthy that Putin, almost in an ultimatum form, called on the leadership of Armenia to decide with whom they want to resolve the conflict. At the same time, he made it clear that in case of refusal to resolve the issue with Russia, the Armenians may suffer new losses.
However, a few hours later, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he was ready to solve the problem with Russia. Immediately after that, comments poured in from the Armenian side about Putin's words that the "Washington version" involves leaving Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, but they say this is not the case in the Russian version.
Although Putin's speech did not say this, the phrase about the "Washington" option became a flag in the hands of Yerevan.
Today, the leader of the Karabakh separatists, Arayik Harutyunyan, followed by his predecessor Bako Sahakyan, made a fiery speech. They both stated that with two hands for the Russian plan and settlement is impossible without the self-determination of Karabakh and its independence.
Finally, Nikol Pashinyan himself, speaking on Saturday at the congress of his Civil Contract party, stated that he was ready to sign a document on October 31 in Sochi "on leaving Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh for 10-15-20 years." According to him, this will ensure the security of the Armenians and will determine their future status.
Apparently, in Armenia and in Karabakh they decided that Russia is ready to force Baku to grant independence status to Karabakh. However, no one in the Armenian leadership wonders why Azerbaijan will do this? ---02B---
