Baku/01.10.22/Turan: Today, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev took part in Sofia at the commissioning ceremony of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector (IGB), which will ensure the delivery of Azerbaijani gas to the Bulgarian market.

IGB, in particular, provides for the transportation to Bulgaria of "blue fuel" produced as part of the operation of the Shah Deniz-2 gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. The state company Bulgargaz EAD signed a contract with the "Shah Deniz" consortium for the supply of 1 billion cubic meters of gas from the "Shah Deniz-2" field. Azerbaijani natural gas will be able to satisfy 25-30% of Bulgaria's needs.

150 kilometers of the IGB pipeline with a total length of 182 kilometers run through the territory of Bulgaria. The annual capacity of the pipeline is expected to be 5 billion cubic meters.

In the future, it will be possible to pump Azerbaijani gas to other countries of southeastern Europe through a network of interconnectors.  By 2027 Azerbaijan plans to double the supply of natural gas to Europe, Aliyev said at the ceremony. According to the president, last year the export of Azerbaijani gas amounted to about 19 billion cubic meters, including 8.2 billion were pumped to Europe, by 40% more than  in the previous year." This year we will increase our exports to more than 22 billion cubic meters, and 11.5 billion cubic meters.

The IGB commissioning ceremony was also attended by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, Presidents of the Republic of North Macedonia and Serbia Stevo Pendarovski and Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Ministers of Greece and Romania Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nicolae- Ionel Chuca.

Within the framework of the event,  Aliyev held a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of state and government participating in the ceremony. --06v--
