The Committee to Protect Nigar Yagulbu will continue fight for her rights
A round table discussion, organized by lawyers and the Committee to Protect the rights of Nigar Yagublu, a member of the Musavat party, took place on Friday in the Media Center.
The head of the Committee, publicist Mehriban Vazir, called the verdict against Yagulbu biased and unfair.
"If Nigar were not a social activist, she would not have been arrested, and no one doubts the political motivation of her arrest," said the lawyer Adil Ismailov.
He noted that while serving her sentence, Nigar will be able to leave the jail for 12 hours. "According to the law, in such institutions the convicted stay mainly at home. However, whether it will be applied to Nigar or not is another question," said the lawyer.
Another lawyer, Elton Guliyev, said that Nigar became the first woman in Azerbaijan arrested for a road accident. He regards the whole process, as well as the sentence, as an offense.
According to the head of the Popular Front Party, Ali Kerimli, from the very outset the arrest was political in nature and is intended as pressure on her father, Tofig Yagublu, a functionary of the party "Musavat".
A scientist and historian, Jamil Hasanli, said that the arrest of Nigar Yagublu was authorized by the head of the Presidential Administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev.
Participants expressed the view to continue to fight for her release.
Nigar Yagublu was responsible for a road accident, as a result of which a man died. The family of the victim does not claim it. -05C04-
