The EU reacted to the arrest of Ali Aliyev
Baku/03.02.22/Turan: The European Union responded to the appeal of the Committee for the Protection of Rights of Ali Aliyev, the head of the Citizens and Development Party.
The letter sent to the committee, signed by EU Eastern Partnership coordinator Richard Tibbets, notes that Aliyev's arrest is under the control of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU Council President Charles Michel and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell .
It is also reported that the Baku Delegation of the EU monitors the situation and brings this to the attention of the Azerbaijani authorities.
* On January 13, the Yasamal District Court of Baku sentenced Ali Aliyev to five months in prison on charges of libel. The lawsuit was filed by lieutenant-colonel of the border service Emil Jafarov. The same lawsuit against Aliyev was filed by the second officer, Ramin Adilov. They were in the Mi-17 helicopter that crashed on November 30 in Khizi.
The reason for the lawsuit is Aliyev's interview to the Osmanqızı TV Youtube channel on December 9, where he said that 14 people died in the crashed helicopter and no one could survive. Therefore, he does not believe that these officers were in the helicopter.—06B-
