The US Embassy refutes the publication on interference in the election process
The US Embassy in Baku denied media reports claiming that the US is supposedly going to coordinate the actions of the opposition to consolidate disparate groups. The information of the embassy sent to Turan agency reads that such anonymous publications are blatant lies. The statement did not say specifically what kind of media in question, but such material is published today in only one newspaper - "Yeni Musavat". The article is titled “The US changes tactics in Azerbaijan.” Citing diplomatic sources, the paper argues that the US is preparing a "special scenario for the parliamentary elections 2015". This "special" scenario is that the US wants to see in Parliament not only the ruling party. The U.S. Embassy is aware of reports that put forth anonymous claims about U.S policy on upcoming elections in Azerbaijan that are grossly inaccurate. The U.S. Embassy was not asked to verify these claims and we firmly reject them. Chargé Hogan did indeed meet with several political parties across the political spectrum to better understand their views. The United States remains a strong advocate for an independent, sovereign, and democratic Azerbaijan, and we do not prejudge or attempt to influence the outcome of any electoral process. We look forward to continued cooperation with the government and people of Azerbaijan on a range of issues.-03B-
