UK Ambassador: We Should Be Tolerant of Dissent
British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddig summed up the 16-day campaign against female violence. The event dedicated to this was held at the Ambassador’s residence on December 10 with the participation of MPs, representatives of international organizations and the public.
The Ambassador noted that the campaign is being conducted around the world, as violence against women is a universal problem.
As part of the campaign, 16 public figures of Azerbaijan made video calls, which are posted on the embassy's Facebook page.
Next Irfan Siddig touched the human rights situation in Azerbaijan, noting that the authorities should show tolerance for dissent and dialogue.
"Today the world celebrates Human Rights Day. The strength of any civil society is the ability to listen to any other opinion, the ability to jointly discuss ways of solving existing problems.
Turning to the Government of Azerbaijan and to those who shape public opinion, I wish them tolerance," said the Ambassador.

Today, September 7, 2024, the second picket in support of Igbal Abilov was held in The Hague (Netherlands) in front of the Embassy of Azerbaijan. The event was organized by Igbal's friends and colleagues. During the picket, protesters continued to collect signatures for the petition and called on Azerbaijan authorities to stop persecution and free Igbal. This is the second rally in support of Abilov in Europe.
