US Embassy presented project "Centers for Women Empowerment
Baku/13.03.23/Turan: The US Embassy in Azerbaijan together with ICPE ( "International Center for Private Entrepreneurship") presented the project "Women's Empowerment Centers".
According to the message of the US Embassy, the project will contribute to increasing business opportunities and career growth of women through entrepreneurial trainings in Baku, Ganja, Lankaran, Shaki, Khachmaz, Salyan and Kurdamir.
The main goal of the project is to expand women's economic opportunities, stimulate them to economic and social leadership and participation in community affairs.
The report of the ICPE project "Center for Strengthening Women in Azerbaijan" notes that the active participation of women in entrepreneurship and work is one of the main factors of inclusive economic development, public health and wealth.
"At the same time, women in Azerbaijan make up only 21 percent of individual entrepreneurs and they are employed in low-paid sectors, receiving salaries half less than men. As a result of established social norms, women are more involved in household chores and child rearing and are not sufficiently represented in leadership positions in the workplace. Further complicating the case is the pandemic COVID that has limited women's opportunities in the economy," the press release continues.
Within the framework of the project, ICPE aims to train more than 350 women entrepreneurs throughout Azerbaijan. Women living in the seven regions mentioned above will open up new horizons for themselves and their communities, learn more about key components of entrepreneurship and inspire each other to achieve economic opportunities. -03B06-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
