U.S. Vows 'Actions' Against Iran For Arming Putin's Army Via Caspian Sea
Washington on Tuesday pledged to continue to hold the Iranian regime accountable, as new reports emerged suggesting that Tehran shipped ammunition through the Caspian Sea to Russia to use in Ukraine, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
"You needn’t look further than the work that we’ve done... in holding the Iranian regime accountable, and we’ll continue to do so and take action as appropriate," State Department's Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said when asked by TURAN if there was anything the U.S. Government could do to prevent Iran's actions.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Iran had shipped over 300,000 artillery shells and a million rounds of ammunition to Russia across the Caspian Sea in the past six months.
According to Patel, Russia's deepening of relations with the Iranian regime "continues to be something that is deeply concerning to us and something that we are continuing to pay close attention to."
He went on to add, "Over the course of this conflict [in Ukraine], we have seen the Russian Federation unleash Iranian-made drones on Kyiv, targeting critical civilian and energy infrastructure. So, it’s something that we’re going to continue to monitor and pay close attention to as well as take action on in conjunction with our allies and partners as well."
