Veterans call for the release of Misir Gasimly arrested in Ukraine
Baku/16.08.22/Turan: Today, a group of veterans tried to hold a protest in front of the Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan demanding an end to the criminal prosecution of Misir Gasimly, a participant in the second Karabakh war. The police did not allow them to approach the embassy, so the participants read out a statement a couple of hundred meters from the diplomatic mission.
According to the protesters, Gasimli was arrested on trumped-up charges. He is being persecuted in connection with an incident with an Armenian that took place a year ago.
Despite there being no evidence of Qasimli's use of force against the applicant, he was arrested and the case is now before the Court of Appeal.
According to the participants, the unjustified persecution of Qasimli casts a shadow on Ukrainian justice and damages relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine. They demanded the immediate release of Gasimly and the termination of the criminal case.
Gasimly's mother pointed to the biased consideration of the case by the court. According to her, during court hearings her son is kept in another room. In addition, there is pressure and threats on Gasimli's lawyers.
The resolution of the action was submitted to the Embassy of Ukraine. –30В06-
