Why does Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan not warn citizens against participating in Ukrainian war?
Baku/22.09.22/Turan: The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan did not follow the example of the Central Asian countries that warned their citizens against participating in the war in Ukraine, warning them about criminal punishment.
When asked by Turan, the press service of the PGO found it difficult to say whether there would be a warning similar to those adopted in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The press service of the PGO added that they are authorized to answer for requests only within the authority of the department.
However, in the past, the Prosecutor General's Office warned about criminal liability of citizens of the country for participating in the war in Syria and other hot spots.
More than a million ethnic Azerbaijanis live in Russia, some of these people remain citizens of Azerbaijan, and they may remain in the dark about the Azerbaijani legislation prohibiting participation in military exercises and conflicts of other countries.
It should be recalled that Article 283-1.3. of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan provides for imprisonment for a term of 7 to 11 years for the participation of citizens of the country in military exercises and armed conflicts on the territory of other countries.
Partial mobilization in Russia has led to new difficulties in relations between the Russian Federation and other countries. The Russian State Duma has approved amendments according to which foreigners serving in the Russian army under contract will be able to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner. -0—
