World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC): Baku is indifferent to the problems of compatriots in Iran

"Relations between the Southern and Northern Azerbaijan and prospects for cooperation" was the theme of today's public hearing organized at the headquarters of the Civil Solidarity Party (CSP) of the World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC).

Co-chair of WAC, Azerbaijani MP Sabir Rustamkhanli said  with regret that in Northern Azerbaijan, the Republic of Azerbaijan,  no books on the national, cultural, social and political rights of compatriots living in the South (Iranian Azerbaijan) are published in the Azerbaijan republic. Azerbaijani students from Iran, who come to study in Azerbaijan, also face great problems in Azerbaijan.

Sometimes, the  authorities  in order not to help  young Azerbaijanis from Iran,  call them "accomplices of Iran." Official Baku has a panic fear  before Tehran regime,  and  therefore,  the Azerbaijani authorities do not raise the issue of violation of the rights of compatriots in Iran  in the international arena. While European states voted for the UN resolution on human rights violations in Iran, Baku says otherwise. Relations with South Azerbaijan to date are at the level of "small commercial relations," says  the participants of the meeting.

Parliaments of European countries are already raising the issue of South Azerbaijan, but  the  Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan has not yet done so.

In addition, the participants  of the meeting, natives from South Azerbaijan and Turkey, stated about the onducting the policy of “kurds” in the  Iranian Azerbaijan. Azerbaijanis  are forced to sell landsto the  Kurds. In particular, this practice is common in the region of Urmia.

The participants  of the meeting initiated the conducting  of the Forum  on the South Azerbaijan with participation of representatives of political parties and public associations of Azerbaijan to develop specific measures to protect the rights of our compatriots abroad. –05D06--
