Youth organization demands the release of its leader
Independent Youth Organization "Azad Ganjlik" (Free Youth) condemned in its statement the arrests of protesters on October 20 in Baku.
The statement authors believe that the actions of the protesters were according to the law "On freedom of assembly", and the actions of the Mayor's Office are a violation of the law.
The statement also condemned the police violence against the protesters, and, most of all, women. The administrative penalty against the head of "Azad Ganjlik", Ulvi Hasanli, who was arrested for eight days, is also wrong.
The authors of the statement demand the immediate release of Ulvi Hasanli and all other arrested youth leaders, and call on the international community to condemn the actions of the authorities of Azerbaijan.
Approximately 200 youth and political activists held an unauthorized rally on Saturday demanding the dissolution of parliament and holding new elections. Police detained 70 people, some of whom were subjected to administrative detention, and some were fined. -05D04-
