Mehman Aliyev: The main thing is the consistent struggle for the right of every voter

The Director of Azerbaijan’s Turan news agency, Mehman Aliyev, and the head of the Commission for Public Relations of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF)  said in his interview with Objektiv.tv, he is prepared, if necessary, to take a burden of a single opposition candidate in reserve in the upcoming presidential election.

According to him, during the last session of the NCDF on August 19, the parties were unable to determine a single candidate. Some participants believe that it is not necessary to go to the polls, if the issue with document registration of the screenwriter Rustam Ibrahimbayov of the CEC is not settled. Another part the Democrats believe is that in any case there should be a single candidate, a representative of civil society, because there is not a consensus among political parties.

According to Mehman Aliyev, it is necessary to focus not on personalities, but on a consistent struggle until victory for the rights of voters and institutional reforms. "Time is short, and as a result of time pressure, we can switch to a zugzwang regime. Under such situation it is possible to understand the head of the "Musavat" party, Isa Gambar, is going to run for president, regardless of the will of NCDF," he said.

Important points are, the tense situation and debates during the session. Even the alleged provocation, in the media close to the government, that Ibrahimbayov is the "Kremlin’s project", did not cause the split in the ranks of democratic forces. On the contrary, Putin's visit showed to whom his arrival was most beneficial. The President expressed his willingness to take the maximum amount of commitments for the sake of his own political stability, and has made so many concessions to the Russian side, that there is no doubt to his intentions.

Mehman Aliyev also expressed a hope that the United Democratic Front is not a temporary phenomenon, and that all the forces appreciate a historic opportunity for transformation and fundamental political and economic reforms.

"If there is a demand for me in society, I am ready to become the presidential candidate and fight till the end for the rights of every voter, who has trusted me the fate of democracy,"  he  said. --17D—
