240kg of drugs seized from illegal circulation, 53 people detained over month
Baku/16.10.23/Turan: The Interior Ministry's Main Department for Combating Drugs has seized 240 kg of drugs worth AZN 5 million from illegal circulation on the black market over the last month. This was reported by the Interior Ministry's press service.
During a series of operations in Baku and other regions of the country, members of an organised group involved in drug smuggling, as well as persons involved in selling drugs were neutralised. Total 53 people were detained.
At the same time, 91 kg of heroin, 78 kg of marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances, 40 kg of methamphetamine, 31 kg of opium, hashish, cocaine, as well as 4,560 tablets of methadone and pregabalin were seized. Total 4,635 bushes of wild-growing cannabis were seized and destroyed.
During these operations, members of an organised group were detained: Arif Humbatov, Farid Bahishov, Mirali Jafarli and Mirmaguerram Azizli. Forty-three kilogrammes of drugs and methamphetamine were seized from them. They were found to have received the drugs from Iran.
Five more people were detained for drug trafficking in the country: Elkhas Aliyev, Zaur Salayev, Sabir Shafiyev, Vugar Suleymanov and Akhmed Omarov. Sixty-three kilogrammes of narcotics and psychotropic substances were seized from them.
All the above-mentioned persons were arrested and criminal cases were initiated against them. -05D-
