A concept for the early detection of child disability is submitted
The concept of the program to detect childhood disabilities at an early stage and prevent it in Azerbaijan took place at the Hyatt Regency. The organizers of the discussion was the Ministry of Health and UNICEF.
Head of Health Department of Baku, Elmira Aliyeva, noted that children with disabilities is one of the most vulnerable groups in need regular support and care. In April 2013 was adopted a law "On compulsory medical examination of children. "It provides for a mandatory medical examination of children by the state not less than once a year.
Representative for «Azersun Holding» Afig Safarov said that on July 5, 2012 was signed a cooperation agreement with UNICEF to reduce child disability in Azerbaijan. He also noted that the company «Azersun Holding» is making material donations to support UNICEF programs for the early detection and prevention of childhood disability.
Member of the working group at the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan, Tarana Seyidzade, introduced the concept of "early stage, prevention and early intervention" prepared by the working group. It is noted that by the beginning of 2013 Azerbaijan registered 62,000 disabled people under 18 years, of which 3878 – are deaf , 14871 - blind and visually impaired , 6462 - the mentally retarded, 7492 - with a speech impairment, 3740 - persons with residues cerebral palsy, 2417 - 7082 and physically underdeveloped child with a congenital anomaly.
Adviser to UNICEF, Professor Ilgi Ertem informed the participants about the concept. The goal program is early detection of hereditary metabolic abnormalities and visual and hearing impairment leading to disability in children.
This concept covers the period up to 2020 and consists of two stages. In the first phase (2014-2015 years) it is planned to implement the concept in some medical institutions of the capital. Starting from 2016, comes into force the second stage of the concept, which is planned to implement the concept in all medical institutions of the country.-02D-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
