Baku/18.05.21/Turan: "I made a confession under torture, I am innocent," Ilkin Suleymanov, accused of the murder of 10-year-old Narmin Guliyeva in the Tovuz region, said at a preparatory trial in Ganja on May 17. At the trial, chaired by Dadash Imanov, the defense made a number of motions: to conduct repeated examinations, to close the case and to replace the initial testimony of the defendant with the current one.

"We also want Ilkin Suleymanov to undergo a medical examination. His body has traces of wounds that still hurt. There are also photographs proving the torture over him, please ensure that an examination is carried out," the lawyer said, but the court did not satisfy the request.

In turn, the state prosecutor stated that there was sufficient evidence, including the confession of Ilkin Suleymanov, and asked the court to set a time for considering the case on the merits.

Ilkin Suleymanov protested, saying, "They took evidence under torture. I have nothing to do with this. The police told me that they would bring my mother, sister and beat them here, so I was forced to sign a confession," he said ... The judge ignored these objections and set the hearing for June 1.

A 10-year-old Narmin Guliyeva disappeared on November 21, 2019 in the village of Dondar, Gushchu, Tovuz region. On January 6, not far from her house, the burnt corpse of a girl was found.

On January 10, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office announced the arrest of 47-year-old Ilkin Suleymanov, a suspect in the murder of Narmin Guliyeva, who confessed to the crime. He was charged under the following Articles of the Criminal Code: 120.2.9 (murder of a knowingly helpless person) and 145.2.3 (illegal imprisonment of a minor).
