Activists Call for Release of Abulfaz Bunyadov
Baku / 08.06.19 / Turan: On June 8, the Center for the Protection of Political Prisoners (CPPP) discussed the deterioration of the health status of the convict for the Nardaran events Abulfaz Bunyadov.
According to the head of the CPPP, Ogtay Gulaliyev, Bunyadov was paralyzed as a result of his injury during the special operation in Nardaran in November 2015 and is now bedridden.
In recent days, according to a member of the Bunyadov family, the health of the convict, who is in the closed Medical Institution of the Ministry of Justice, has sharply deteriorated; he suffers from a developing intestinal infection and he practically cannot eat food or water. Bunyadov's life is under threat.
"80 percent of Abulfaz Bunyadov"s body is not functioning. Keeping such a person in prison is like killing him alive. He should be released immediately," said Zumrud Yagmur, a member of the Center for Human Rights, a writer.
The co-chair of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Prisoner Believers, the head of the Association of Intellectuals of Azerbaijan, Eldaniz Guliyev, said that on June 12, the Supreme Court would consider Bunyadov's cassation appeal. "We are making every effort to free Bunyadov. We very much hope that he will be released on June 12," Guliyev said.
The participants of the meeting, on behalf of the CPPP, accepted appeals to the authorities of Azerbaijan with a call to release Bunyadov.
The issue of the health status of other political prisoners was also discussed.
* During the special operation in Nardaran in November 2015, Bunyadov received bullet wounds that injured his spine. Although he was bedridden, he was detained for several months. Subsequently, the court changed the preventive measure to house arrest. However, following the results of the judicial investigation, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of attempting to change the constitutional order, terrorism, etc. -06D--

On Tuesday, the General Prosecutor's Office announced the initiation of new criminal cases against agricultural product exporters who allegedly concealed their earnings abroad.
