Amnesty International Concerned for Intigam Aliyev
Amnesty International expressed concern about the deteriorating state of the "prisoner of conscience" Intigam Aliyev and refusal to provide him with medical care.
Amnesty International calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Aliyev and ensure the provision of appropriate assistance, including hospitalization.
The statement also expressed concern about the limitations of Aliyev’s right to defense - an important condition for fair trial.
Contained in jail in Kurdakhani, Aliyev was examined in October. He suffers from osteochondrosis and protrusion (hernia) of the spine. However, he was left in the cell, appointing outpatient treatment that does not work.
Intigam Aliyev was arrested Aug. 8 on charges of tax evasion, abuse of office and illegal business.
International and local public believes that the true reason for his arrest was support by Aliyev of lawsuits against the government of Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights, and his participation in the drafting of a single list of political prisoners. –16D--
