Fuad Abbasov
Another action in defense of a journalist in front of the Russian Embassy
Baku/24.05.19/Turan: A group of citizens today again tried to hold a protest in front of the Russian Embassy in connection with the detention of journalist Fuad Abbasov in this country.
They were holding a poster depicting a photo of Abbasov with the slogan "We will all be Fuad!"
The reinforced police squads did not let the protesters directly to the building.
One of the protesters, human rights activist Rovshan Ahmedli, condemned the detention of a journalist and the use of force against him.
"Russia is not a rule of law. For in a state of law a journalist is not treated as a criminal," he said.
The Russian Federation must comply with obligations arising from international conventions.
In his opinion, Abbasov made efforts to self-organize and solve the problems of the multi-million diaspora.
"We demand that the Azerbaijani state protect its citizen and demand clarification from Russia.
We demand clarification from the Russian state about the violation of rights and torture of a journalist. Publishing in the media the personnel of Abbasov"s detention with the use of violence is an insult not only of a journalist, but also a step directed against all Azerbaijanis," said Ahmedli.
The rally in front of the Russian embassy in defense of Abbasov is held for the third day.
* Journalist Abbasov became known to the public in 2015 after speaking at a talk show on Russian TV channels in connection with a discussion of the destruction of a Russian military aircraft in Turkey. Abbasov was invited as a correspondent for the Turkish agency İhlas to present the position of Turkey. Later, Abbasov participated in a talk show on issues relating to Azerbaijan.
Recently, Abbasov criticized some diaspora organizations of Azerbaijanis for insufficiently upholding the interests of compatriots, accused them of working with Armenians and announced the creation of a party of Azerbaijanis in the Russian Federation.-03B06--
