Avaz Zeynalli lays flowers on the grave of Heydar Aliyev
Avaz Zeynalli, pardoned editor of "Khural" newspaper, today visited the Alley of Honors to lay flowers on the grave of Heydar Aliyev and his spouse Zarifa Aliyeva. Before that, he laid flowers to the Alley of Martyrs. In addition, he laid a wreath on the grave of ex-president Abulfaz Elchibey, and a number of other public and political figures.
Zeynalli was arrested in September 2011 on the complaint of the deputy Gular Akhmedova. He was subsequently sentenced to nine years on charges of extortion and tax evasion. He was recognized as a political prisoner, and for his release international organizations and local human rights activists fought for several years.
In jail, he constantly accused the authorities of the political order, and in particular, head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev for organization of his arrest.-06D-
