Azerbaijani Athletes Won Three Gold Medals at the European Games
Azerbaijani sportsmen won 4 more medals - three gold and one bronze – at the European Games on 17 June.
The first "gold" on June 17 was brought by the freestyle wrestler (65 kg), the champion of the London Olympics Togrul Askerov.
In the final, he won a clear victory on his rival, Italian Frank Camizzo.
Bronze medalist of the London Olympics Hetag Gazyumov also ranked first among freestyle wrestlers in the weight category 95 kg.
In the final, he defeated Georgian Elizbar Odikadze.
Another representative of Azerbaijan in freestyle wrestling Jabrail Hasanov won the bronze medal of the Games among athletes in the weight category 74 kg.
The third gold medal was brought by taekwondo wrestler Aykhan Taghizadeh.
In the final match he defeated in a bitter struggle Karol Roebuck from Poland.
So, after two periods Taghizadeh was inferior to his opponent in 1: 3. In the third period Taghizadeh struck his opponent a series of spectacular attacks and stepped forward 9: 4. But he could not hold the advantage and as a result most of the time ended in a draw 9: 9.
In the extra period Taghizadeh won the victory and the gold.
After five days of competition in the medal standings Azerbaijan retains the second place. Azerbaijan has 23 medals (11 gold, three silver and nine bronze medals). In the first place is Russia with 29 medals (16, 5 and 8). Hungary is still in the third place - 13 medals (7-1-5). -06D--
