Bakhtiyar Hajiyev continues hunger strike for 37 days
Baku/14.02.23/Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev continues his hunger strike for 37 days, his lawyer Fakhraddin Mehdiyev told Turan, who visited him on February 14 at the medical institution of the penitentiary service.
“Bakhtiyar was very lethargic and reported severe pain all over his body. He continues to lose weight, today he weighs 68.1 kg (when he entered the pre-trial detention center, he weighed 84.5 kg).
In the morning, blood samples were taken from him for tests, the results were not yet known, ”the lawyer said.
According to him, Hajiyev complains about being kept in a very cramped room, where it is even difficult to breathe.
The lawyer also said that when he was in the prison hospital, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross also came to Hajiyev.
According to him, Hajiyev still refuses to take medication through a drip and intends to starve until his release.
Today, the Khatai court will consider another petition to transfer Hajiyev to house arrest.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day.
On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev's arrest for another 1 month. -B06-
