Blogger placed in a prison hospital

Baku / 14.09.20 / Turan: Blogger Aslan Gurbanov, who suffers from a serious neurological disease, was transferred from the detention center of the State Security Service to the Medical Institution of the Penitentiary Service at the request of the defense.

Because of the deterioration of Gurbanov's health, the defense also petitioned to change the preventive measure to house arrest. However, last Friday the court dismissed the petition, lawyer Ramiz Mammadov told Turan, who filed an appeal against the court's decision.

Gurbanov, 27, was detained on July 14 by the State Security Service.

He was charged under the Article 281.2 (open calls against the state) and 283.1 (inciting national, religious, social hatred) of the Criminal Code. The court arrested Gurbanov for 4 months.

The accusation is based on the blogger's publications on facebook and instagram. So, on a page in instagram entitled: “caspi_cadus_talysh” he published songs, poems and prose of Talysh authors, promoted heroes of Talysh origin, language and literature of Talysh. This was stated in the statement of the Public Council of Talysh of Azerbaijan (OSTA).

According to the structure, Gurbanov suffers from severe epilepsy. It was not possible to get comments from the State Security Service. –06B-
