Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners (CMPP) condemns repression against journalists

Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners (CMPP) condemned the pressure on independent journalists in Azerbaijan. The statement of the Center noted the  policy of pressure on the independent press in Azerbaijan in recent years, which  is in the  form of open repression.

Currently under investigation are journalists: Seymour Hazy and Rauf Mirkadyrov, administrative detention is serving Khalid Garayev, the newspaper "Ayna-Zerkalo" had to close, and many journalists have fled the country.

Previously Avaz Zeynalli, Parviz Hashimli, Hilal Mamedov and others were convicted, and  a blogger Mehman Huseynov was banned to leave the country. The statement also condemns the campaign of pressure on the journalist Khadija Ismailova, who is  also prohibited to leave the country, and she faces criminal liability on trumped-up libel suit.

The CMPP urges the public to raise voice in defense of Ismaylova, and calls on  pro-government media  to stop campaign against her.-05D-
