Civil society activist arrested for 25 days
Baku / 05.12 / Turan: Huseyn Melik, a member of the Board of the Movement for Democracy and Prosperity, was arrested for 25 days. The leadership of the Movement learned about this from an informed source.
Unknown persons in civilian clothes came to his house that night, broke the doors, and forcibly took the activist in an unknown direction, reads the statement of the Movement.
The leadership of the movement believes that the activist is held in the Binagadi detention center, although he cannot receive official information about his fate.
As for the reasons for the arrest, this is most likely due to the political activity of Hussein Melik"s social network and in public life.
"This is a fact of abduction of a person and a gross violation of the rights of the individual by the authorities," the statement said.
Shortly after the arrest, all entries were erased from Melik's Facebook page until May 29, 2016. "This proves that all the charges against him in court were of a formal nature; the real reason for his prosecution is precisely his social and political activity," the statement said.
The movement condemns the policy of the authorities to suppress the rights and freedoms of citizens, repressions against dissidents and opponents of the government, and demands the immediate release of Huseyn Melik and all other political prisoners, the statement says.
As always, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is not aware of what happened and does not know who and why detained and arrested a citizen of the country in the midnight, breaking down the doors of his apartment. -16D-
