Civil society activists ask to pardon Aziz Orujev
Baku / 16.02.18 / Turan: The National Platform of the Civil Society Forum of the EU's Eastern Partnership program appealed to the Pardon Commission under the President of Azerbaijan with a request to release director of Internet TV Kanal 13 Aziz Orujeva from prison.
Aziz Orujev was arrested on May 2, 2017 for 30 days on charges of an administrative offense - not subordination to the police. At the end of this period, he was charged on criminal charges: 192 (illegal business) and 308 (abuse of official powers). Subsequently, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Orujov did not plead guilty.
The authors of the appeal believe that the verdict handed down by Orujov contradicts the presidential decree of February 10, 2017 on the humanization of punishment and the issuance of alternative punishments.
The content of Orujev's imprisonment may negatively affect relations between Azerbaijan and the EU, according to the National Platform of the Eastern Partnership. -03B06-
