Congress of News Agencies Opened in Baku
25 years of independence showed that the country achieved freedom of the press and other freedoms, said Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday at the opening of the V World Congress of news agencies in Baku.
The event is attended by about 200 guests from 80 countries, representing more than a hundred news agencies.
The Head of State said Azerbaijan is a modern, dynamic country and has a positive international image that was proven a few years ago, when Azerbaijan was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
"It was the support of Azerbaijan, as a responsible and reliable partner," he said. He believes Azerbaijan is of the few countries that are both members of the Council of Europe and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
“In 2008 Azerbaijan organized a meeting of Ministers of Culture of European and Islamic countries in Baku. It was a historic achievement, and then it got the name Baku Process.”
Speaking of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev recalled the recent visit of Pope Francis to Baku.
Further, Aliyev spoke about the conflict with Armenia, the four resolutions of the UN Security Council, and the destruction of monuments in the occupied territories.
“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The territorial integrity of our country is valuable as the territorial integrity of other countries,” he said. -71D-
