Consideration of the case of Parviz Hashimli is scheduled for March 11

Preliminary hearing in the case of journalist Parviz Hashimli  and Tavakkul Gurbanov, accused of smuggling and illegal arms trade, was over today  in Baku Serious Crimes Court  chaired by  Novruz Kerimov.

Hashimli complained about conditions in jail of the Ministry of National Security (MNS.) He said that he was deprived of one-hour walk on March 6. He also pointed out that he is not allowed to meet with family, and denied the opportunity to speak to them on the phone. He asked the judge to send a letter in jail to ensure his rights. In response, the judge said that these issues are within the competence of officials of the MNS’s jail, he can not interfere.

Then Hashimli said his numerous appeals from prison in different government organizations remained unanswered. The judge in this regard said that the court considers the case in the framework of the charges, and can not focus on other issues not related to the criminal case.
"We are not law enforcement agencies," said the judge. "So you are satisfied with moss rights violations," said Hashimli. After the meeting, the court announced that the next meeting will be held March 11 at 10.00.

Hashimli was arrested on September 17, 2013 on charges of smuggling and illegal arms trade. He said the charges were politically motivated. Relatives of the journalist said that he was requested publication  of revelatory articles against PFPA leader Ali Kerimli , but he refused, and now  he is punished for it.-16D06--
