Council of Europe held a training for Azerbaijan Lawyers

The Training Program of lawyers and human rights defenders completed in Azerbaijan within the framework of the project "Improving knowledge and skills of lawyers and human rights ", implemented by the Council of Europe and the European Union.

Last week there was the third training session during which 20 Azerbaijani lawyers and activists were able to increase their knowledge on the issue of local implementation of the European Convention of Human Rights and the European Social Charter.

 On February 24 there was a ceremony of awarding certificates to participants of the project.

Since March trained lawyers will share their knowledge with colleagues .

"This program is important to improve the knowledge of lawyers and human rights defenders. I believe that they were trained and took advantage of this opportunity to share their knowledge with their colleagues," said the Acting Head of the Council of Europe Office in Azerbaijan Teymur Melik- Aslanov.

One of the partners in the implementation of the program is the Academy of Justice of Azerbaijan.

The Acting Rector of the institution Elchin Khalafov expressed the hope that the lawyers - instructors trained under the program will contribute to the teaching of the European Convention on Human Rights at the Justice Academy.

We note that the draft Council of Europe and the EU is regional and calls for action in the period from 2013 to 2015 in Azerbaijan, Armenia , Moldova, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine. -06C-
