Court Divides Participants of "Karabakh Action" into Three Groups
Baku/25.02.21/Turan: The people accused in connection with participation in street demonstrations in Baku on July 14-15, 2020 (an action in support of the army) have been divided into three groups and the judicial investigation will be conducted separately. This decision was made by the judge of the Sabail District Court, Agamaly Gafarov, on February 24.
During the preparatory session, the lawyers petitioned for the termination of the criminal case, removal of electronic bracelets from the accused because of their severity and replacement of these devices with others, or to change house arrest to police supervision. The court rejected these requests.
Recall that the action on July 14-15, 2020 was spontaneous and tens of thousands of people took part in it. They marched through the streets of Baku all night, demanding that the authorities start a war in Karabakh. The reason for this was the attack of Armenians and the murder of several Azerbaijani soldiers in Tovuz on July 12.
A group of protesters broke into the parliament building, after which arrests began. At the same time, the official propaganda accused the PFPA of using the situation for political purposes.
After the end of the Second Karabakh War in November 2020, the preventive measure for those arrested was changed and they were released from custody.
At the same time, the court granted the motion to divide the accused into several groups in view of their big number. The court hearings in the three groups are scheduled for March 4, 5 and 9 respectively.
There are 37 accused in the case, including 16 members of the Popular Front Party, 2 members of the Muslim Unity Movement and 1 activist of the Movement for Democracy and Welfare.— 16D06-
