Court of Appeal Dismisses Appeal from Fuad Gahramanli
The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal from the Deputy Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Fuad Gahramanli. The complaint was filed in connection with the rejection of the application by the defense to change the preventive measure of arrest for house arrest. Turan was told by the lawyer Nemat Karimli.
According to him, Gahramanli told the court he did not expect a fair decision and called for more judges to complete the trial.
Gahramanli reported political motives for his arrest.
"We knew that the consideration of the appeal would be a formality. But we had to go through this instance. Now, having exhausted all the sub-national mechanisms to appeal against the arrest, we will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights," said Karimli.
Gahramanli was arrested on December 8, 2015 on charges of public appeals against the state, national, racial and religious hatred. In particular Gahramanli is charged with incitement to illegal actions in Nardaran after the arrest of the leader of the Muslim Unity Movement Taleh Bagirzadeh. -06B--
