Court of Appeal Keeps Aghil Maharramli in Custody
Baku / 01.06.18 / Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the complaint about the arrest of the Popular Front Party activist Aghil Maharramli.
The complaint was filed in connection with his arrest for four months. He and two other activists, Ruslan Nasirli and Babek Hasanov, were detained on May 25. The next day, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs spread a message, claiming that they were brought to criminal liability together with the former head of the Gadabay region Saleh Rustamov and his nephew Vidadi Rustamli, who were arrested three weeks earlier on charges of illicit drug trafficking.
Law enforcement authorities accuse all five of them of illegal business and money laundering. According to the official version, while doing business in Russia, Saleh Rustamov collected money from businessmen to finance the activities of the Popular Front Party. The money was sent, bypassing the bank turnover, and transferred to PFPA activists. PFPA has called the charges of money laundering completely absurd. -B06--
