Court of Appeal upholds Parviz Hashimli in custody
On September 26 the Baku Appeal Court presided by Abid Abdinbekov considered the complaint of journalist Parviz Hashimli for unlawful arrest.
According to the lawyer Anar Gasymly, the journalist said again that the charges against him, smuggling and illegal possession of weapons, were concocted.
He asked the court to change the measure of restraint on house arrest. However, the judge did not grant the petition and complaint as a whole, leaving Hashimli in custody. The lawyer said that the next steps can be forwarding new requests for release Hashimli on bail, or replacement of arrest to house arrest.
* Hashimli is a parliamentary correspondent for the newspaper "Bizim Yol", the head of the site "Moderator.az, and the NGO Center to Protect Political and Civil Rights, as well as a member of the Supreme Majlis of PPFA.
If his guilt is proved, he may be imprisoned for eight years.—06D-
