Court Sentences Aslan Ismayilov to Fine of AZN 1,500
Baku / 05.08.18 / Turan: Yesterday the Sabail District Court sentenced the lawyer, the head of the Visa firm Aslan Ismayilov to a fine of AZN 1,500 on the suit of the head of the Modern Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev.
The court acquitted Ismayilov under Article 147.2 (libel in committing a grave crime) of the Criminal Code.
At the same time, Judge Azer Tagiyev found Ismayilov guilty under Art. 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code and fined him at 1,500 manat.
Hajiyev demanded that Ismayilov be brought to justice on both counts and wanted him to pay compensation of 100,000 manat.
The reason for the claim was Ismayilov"s publication on Facebook, in which he called Hajiyev "an animal". Hajiyev accused Ismayilov of inflicting damage on his reputation. Ismayilov said that "it is impossible to inflict damage on what does not exist." Both sides were unhappy with the decision of the court and intend to appeal it.
Hafiz Hajiyev is known for his extravagant behavior. Since 2003, he has participated as a candidate in all presidential elections and is distinguished by "insulting" attacks on the opposition. -03D-

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has not been invited to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled in Azerbaijan for September 1. Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Aykhan Hacizade, stated that invitations have been sent to seven international organizations: the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, GUAM, the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States.

Shainoglu disclosed the decision via social media platform X, stating that the CEC notified him by phone, just 30 minutes before the expiration of the seven-day response period.
