Two PFPA Activists Arrested for 30 Days

Baku / 05.07.18 / Turan: The activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Yashar Farazi and Rahib Gurbanov were arrested for 30 days on July 4 on administrative charges on insubordination to the police.

Farazi was detained in the Absheron district, where he lives.

Police officers took him away from home, the PFPA activists told Turan. The law enforcers did not explain anything to his relatives. Only late in the evening his family learned that by the decision of the Absheron district court Yashar Farazi was arrested for 30 days. He was found guilty under Article 535.1 (disobeying the lawful demands of the police) of the Code of Administrative Offenses - he allegedly cursed without address in the street, and when the police officers called him to stop it, he refused to obey.

Rahib Gurbanov, deputy chairman of the PFPA Surakhani regional organization, was arrested on a similar charge on 4 July. He was taken to a local police station, and by evening the court sentenced the activist to 30 days of arrest.

In PFPA, the arrest of the activists is considered a political order. The party recalls that 10 activists of the PFPA are held in prison on criminal charges. -06D--
