Criminal Case against Mehman Huseynov Dismissed

Baku / 22.01.19 / Turan: The new criminal case against blogger Mehman Huseynov (that he allegedly attacked the warden) was discontinued. This is stated in the message of the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

The report said that in connection with the appeal of Huseynov and human rights activists to the President of Azerbaijan, the head of state recommended that the Prosecutor General ensure the objectivity of the investigation. In accordance with the recommendation of the President, the Prosecutor General gave the appropriate instructions to the investigation, the report said.

"Given Huseynov"s youth, not bringing him to disciplinary responsibility during the period of serving the sentence, his joining the path of correction, having an elderly father, and committing a less serious crime that does not pose a danger to society, the investigation stopped the criminal case," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

The report also states that Huseynov is not currently on a hunger strike, his imprisonment conditions are normal, and he has no complaints or demands.

At the same time, the General Prosecutor"s Office warns the media "raising an artificial rush around M. Huseynov for personal interests and political purposes" and spreading false reports that any illegal actions against stability and tranquility in the country will be decisively stopped.

But as usual, the authorities do not specify who they mean. In addition, it is curious that, until recently, the Prison Service, the courts and the prosecutor"s office claimed the exact opposite about Mehman Huseynov. So, he was twice denied parole, accused of not being disciplined and misbehaving in custody. It was on this basis that he was not allowed to even say goodbye to his dying mother, and only allowed to join the funeral. -06D-
