During Police Incident, Driver Attempted Self-immolation
Baku / 17.12.18 / Turan: Yesterday in Baku, at the intersection of Azadlig Avenue and Hasan Aliyev Street, an incident occurred between the driver and the traffic police.
Vagif Asadov, a representative of the State Traffic Police of Baku, said the incident was caused by the violation of cargo transportation rules by a GAZ-31 with the state number 10-NR-899. Traffic police officers stopped the car in connection with the transportation of fittings with a length of 12 meters. The car all along the way created obstacles for other road users. The driver was asked to submit documents and be tested for alcohol. However, the driver refused and pulled a plastic canister with gasoline out of the trunk, and tried to set fire to himself. The police officers took the matches from him, but he set fire on himself with a cigarette lighter. The police were able to rip the outerwear off the driver and delivered him to the Republican Burn Center.
In turn, the Ministry of Health reported that the driver was placed in intensive care.

The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
