Fahraddin Abbasov's suicide in prison?
Baku/10.11.20/Turan: Talysh scholar Fahraddin Abbasov (Abbaszade), convicted on charges of treason, committed suicide in Gobustan prison, reads the message of the Public Council of Talysh of Azerbaijan (PCTA), spread late in the evening on November 9.
The statement described the circumstances of the death of Abbasov as strange, who repeatedly told his relatives that he could be eliminated and inspired to commit suicide. Abbasov argued that he was not going to commit suicide, and if this were announced, so that relatives would not believe.
OSTA draws parallels with the case of another Talysh scholar Novruzali Mamedov, also convicted on charges of treason and died in prison. PCTA expresses the hope that the country's leadership will ensure an objective investigation of Abbasov's death and the public will be provided with objective information. PCTA regrets the death of Abbasov and condolences to his family and friends.
It was not possible to get comments from the penitentiary service, and the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office did not have information on this case. However, the department noted that a criminal case is being opened for any fact of suicide.
On February 14, the Baku Grave Crimes Court sentenced Fahraddin Abbasov, accused in cooperation with the special services of Armenia, to 16 years in prison. He was found guilty under the Article 281.2 (open calls against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan), 283.1 (actions aimed at inciting national hatred) and 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code.
The criminal case against Abbasov was launched back in July 2018.
On February 28, 2018, he was deported to Azerbaijan from Russia.
Abbasov is known for leaving Azerbaijan and being in Russia, opposed the statehood of Azerbaijan. He often traveled to Armenia, where he openly called for the partition of Azerbaijan, called on the Talysh to rise up to fight for it. –06D-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
