Four infants killed in fire at Republican Perinatal Centre
Baku/09.11.23/Turan: Four newborn babies died last night in a fire at the Republican Perinatal Centre in Baku. Three more people suffered smoke poisoning.
The fire in the Khatai district of Baku broke out at night and "was extinguished in a short time by the forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Interior Ministry". People in the medical centre were evacuated, the joint report of the Prosecutor General's Office, Emergencies Ministry and Tabib said.
Three people were hospitalised in the toxicology department of the Clinical Medical Centre of Baku in connection with poisoning. They were provided with necessary assistance, their condition is stable. "The bodies of four newborn children were found in the intensive care unit," the press release said.
The investigative department of the General Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case under Articles 225.3 (violation of fire safety rules, causing by negligence, the death of two or more persons) and 314.3 (negligence, causing by negligence the death of two or more persons) of the Criminal Code.
Investigative and operational activities are ongoing.
