Gasid does not want to return debt
The state agency for the dissemination of the press Gasid is unable to repay the newspaper Azadlig 56 thousand manats. This was said to the protesters at the rally held outside the office of the company by its deputy director Agassi Ismailov.
The action was attended by members of the Azadlig paper and other journalists who shouted: "Give back our money," "Enough to stifle freedom!"
Coming out to the protesters, Ismailov invited them to discuss the situation. During the conversation, Ismailov said that the director of the company was absent and he could not answer for him. At the same time, Ismailov recognized the debt of AZN 56,000 to the newspaper and said that the company cannot pay the debt. He could not clearly explain why Gasid was unable to return the money for the sold copies of the newspaper. "We will try," promised Ismailov.
Recall that the country's leading opposition newspaper Azadlig is subjected to judicial fines totaling more than 60 thousand manats. It still owes ??several thousand AZN to the newspaper publisher. The newspaper cannot cover all these costs as Gasid does not provide refunds for the copies sold, explaining it that the firm is a bankrupt.
The appeals of the journalists to the court do not give results. The public regards this game of "cat and mouse" as a conscious government pressure to close the newspaper, which is the main source of criticism of the government. - 03B-
