Giyas Ibrahimov Released from Police, but Charges Not Dropped
Baku /10.06.20 / Turan: Public activist Giyas Ibrahimov, detained the previous evening, was released this morning. He was kept in the Nizami police department, and in the morning the police chief said that they called him “from above” and ordered to release him.
At the same time, Giyas was not returned his glasses and a megaphone, with the help of which he held a rally on the roof of the house, where he lives, on June 9.
“When they detained me, they hit me a couple of times, and when they dragged me along the roof, they injured my back and legs. The police told me that they accuse me under Article 510 of the Code of Administrative Violations (petty hooliganism).
They should have taken me to court, but I don’t know what will happen now,” Giyas Ibrahimov told reporters.
Note that the police themselves have not yet made an official statement regarding the Ibrahimov protest.
The activist hung a large poster from the roof of the building urging citizens not to be silent and to protest against police arbitrariness. Through a megaphone, he also appealed to citizens to take to the streets and protest. This appeal was demonstrated online in social networks.
Recall that on June 8, early in the morning, a quick reaction police raided a residential quarter of the capital, broke into citizens' apartments, beat and insulted the people. 11 people were arrested, including women.
The reason for this police atrocity was that the day before, the residents of the house threw garbage at the policemen because they had detained a tenant of their house for violating the quarantine. -0-
